Afghanistan - A Land of Courage, Resistance and Hope

Dari - The language that unites Afghanistan

Dari, also known as Afghan Persian, is one of the official languages of Afghanistan and is spoken primarily in that country. It is a form of Persian that was developed and refined in Afghanistan.

Dari is spoken as a native language by about 9 million people in Afghanistan and is widely spoken, especially in urban centers such as Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, and other cities. It is the predominant language in education, media, government and administration in the country.

The history of Dari goes back a long way and has its roots in classical Persian, which has been shaped by various influences over the centuries. Arabic, Turkic, and Mongolian elements were incorporated into the language while it retained its Persian identity.

Dari has a close connection with Persian culture and literature, which have a rich tradition in the region. Persian literature has a long history and includes works by famous poets such as Rumi, Hafez and Ferdousi. Dari also shares many common words and grammatical structures with other varieties of Persian, such as Farsi, which is spoken in Iran.

Although Dari is spoken primarily in Afghanistan, it has some presence outside the country as well. Due to the Afghan diaspora and refugee communities, Dari speakers can be found in other countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and the United States.

Dari is an important language for Afghan identity and plays a crucial role in the country’s communication, education, and cultural development. It is a living expression of Afghanistan’s rich cultural history and its connection to Persian language and culture.
